GIVEAWAY AND REVIEW OF AT HOME BY B. BRYSON

At Home: A Short History of Private LifeIn At Home: A Short History of Private Life, the author takes us on a tour of his house in rural England. The house was a former rectory and he went from room to room and commenting on what he found interesting. The bathroom provides the occasion for a history of hygiene; the bedroom, sex, death, and sleep; the kitchen, nutrition and the spice trade; and so on, as Bryson shows how each has figured in the evolution of private life. Whatever happens in the world, he demonstrates, ends up in our house, in the paint and the pipes and the pillows and every item of furniture.

My Thoughts-

I found the book enjoyable. In reading the book, I felt that there were a series of essays combined together. There were many interesting facts that I was unaware of such as the inventor of the mouse trap and the definition of a Study. It reminded me of a history text, but more interesting and entertaining. There were illustrations and Photographs throughout the text that depicted what the author was discussing at the time. Mr. Bryson included a great bibliography and an index but I wish he would have used footnotes at times. I have never read any of the author's books before and I look forward to reading A Walk in the Woods. So would you like to win a copy of this book? It is Easy.
