REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY OF KASPERSKY PURE TOTAL SECURITY

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to the folks at Kaspersky, I had the opportunity to try their new Internet security program PURE.

Kaspersky Pure 3-UserKaspersky PURE Total Security is the first product to combine our award-winning, premium protection with central management capabilities that aren’t available anywhere else.
Ideal for families with children, or households with multiple PCs, Kaspersky PURE protects more than just a single computer - it turns your machine into a hub, capable of managing the security and parental control settings of every PC on your home network.  With Kaspersky PURE, busy families can easily run scans on every computer in the household, enforce limits on computer usage, and prevent important information from being lost, stolen or accidently deleted.

The NEW features in Kaspersky PURE include:
  • Home Network Control -from one PC, you can conveniently view and maintain the security tasks for all the PCs in your home: fix security issues and run scans, updates, and backup tasks
  • Remote Management of Parental Controls - set and adjust parental control settings, customize reporting, and monitor all online activities—for all PCs in your home.
  • Password Manager - combats identity theft by generating distinct, strong passwords for all of your online accounts, storing your account information in an encrypted vault, and automatically logging you on to websites.  You only have to remember one master password.
  • Backup & Restore - simply schedule routine, automatic backup to an external drive, USB, or FTP location.  You can store multiple versions of files, and restore individual files or an entire data set.  In case your hard drive crashes or your PC is stolen, you can restore your backup data to any PC – even machines without Kaspersky PURE.

My Thoughts-

The product was easy to set up but installation was a little more tricky. It is important that you un-install any virus detection program before you install Pure. I originally had Mcafee installed. After removing my old program, Kaspersky detected that parts of the program was not removed (registry items) and had to be removed before Pure would install. I ended up going to the Mcafee site for instructions on how to remove it totally. Kaspersky then installed without a hitch. The startup screen was easy to navigate and setting it up was quite easy. If you are not familiar with computers, I suggest that you do not change any of the settings. The program includes Parental Control and Backup. I did not use the backup part of the program because I utilize an online backup service. If you have younger children the Parental Controls are great. You can control what sites your kids are visiting, and monitor social networks. My children are teenagers but I choose not to utilize the Parental controls at this time.

I did have one problem with the program. Whenever I tried to access Shelfari.com, Pure kept thinking that my shelf was a virus and prevented the site from loading. The program always gave me an alert about the problem. I corrected the problem by changing a setting in the program and now it works correctly. I installed the program on all of my computers (Windows7) and they all had the same problem with Shelfari.com and I was able to correct them all.  With the program, I am able to access all of my computers(3)to run scans and update the program. You will have to set up a password to do that. The website has troubleshooting information if you run into a problem and their support department is very helpful. So far the program picked up a couple of viruses and deleted them. I was notified via an alert that they were removed. Overall the program is excellent is easy to use and did not slow down my computer. I plan to stick with Kaspersky because I feel that it is a better product and will protect my computers better.
