BOOK REVIEW AND TOUR- THE CHOICE

The Choice (Lancaster County Secrets, Book 1) by Suzanne Woods Fisher is a story about an Amish girl, Carrie Weaver, who has to face many challenges in her life. She falls in love with Solomon who becomes a baseball player and wants her to run away with him. She is planning to go with him but when her father dies, she decides not to leave her brother Andy and her religion. She has a very controlling step-mother who does not treat the family well.

One of her father’s best friend,Eli and his son Daniel was staying with the Weaver family for the summer. To break away from her step-mother Carrie decides to marry Daniel. Does she love him? I guess you will have to read the book to find out the answer to that question. Another tragedy happens in her life and Daniel is killed in a buggy accident. How will she take care of her brother Andy and the farm?

Solomon is still trying to get her to run away from it all but she is still unsure of her future. All of a sudden, one of Daniels cousins Abel comes to visit. Land is very precious and there is a developer that is trying to buy the land and she can be very persuading. There have been a couple of barn fires that occurs around the area. Abel is blamed for them because he was recently released from prison because of similar fires that occurred where he used to live. Who is responsible for the fires? What will happen to Carrie? Carrie has many choices to make. This is the first book in the Lancaster County Secrets series.

About the Author-

Suzanne is a wife and mom, raiser of puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind, and an author of Christian books, both non-fiction and fiction.

Her relatives on my mother's side are Old Order German Baptist Brethren, also known as Dunkards. That's where her interest in Anabaptist traditions began. Suzanne's grandfather was born into a family of 13 children, started his career as a teacher in a one-room school house in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and ended it as one of the very first publishers of Christianity Today. "We called him "Deardad" even though he was a very stern fellow. Still, Deardad's life inspired me to write."

After college, Suzanne was a freelance writer for magazines and became a contributing editor to Christian Parenting Today. Her work has been featured in Today's Christian Woman, Marriage Partnership, Worldwide Challenge, among others. She took the plunge into books a few years ago and now she's hooked. My Review-
I have not read any books about the Amish community, but I have learned a little about their beliefs in school. The book was an enjoyable read and there were twists and turns in the story that kept me guessing all the time. In reading the story, I was able to feel all of the character's emotions. I could not put the book down. I stayed up until two am on a school night to finish the book. Boy did I regret that in the morning. The author wrote an exceptional novel and I look forward to reading the next book of the series,The Waiting.

REVIEW OF MOTHER DAZE BY CHRISTINE CARR

Have we mothers gone mad? From play dates and soccer games to music lessons and tutoring sessions, moms have got to do it all and still find time to do everything else. Christine Carr, mother of three, invites readers to join her on the refreshingly witty and fun recounting of her own MOTHER DAZE.

My review-

Being a mom of twins who are teenagers is not easy. When I read Mother Daze , I was quickly reminded of what I had to do to raise them. She discussed pregnancy, friendships, relatives, teachers, and husbands. There are days that I feel overwelmed and frustrated. The book was a breath of fresh air and I realized I was not the only one who was pulling my hair out.  If you want a great book to help you laugh again this is the book for you. Check out the interview with the author on TV.

REVIEW OF LOVE IN 90 DAYS BY DR DIANE KIRSCHNER

Love in 90 Days: The Essential Guide to Finding Your Own True Love by Dr. Diana Kirschner is great for the single lady out there. My daughter Melissa, asked me to read and review this book. I have been married for over 20 years, and I have been out of the dating scene for a long time. I found the information contained in the book realistic and very useful. If I was single looking for love, I would follow the information that she discusses.

The part I liked the most was when she talks about the Thirteen Deadly Dating Patterns in the beginning of the book. There are many women and men (yes, men have dating problems too) that have bad habits and the author has suggestions to help you break the cycle. The book was fun to read. I am passing this book on to one of my friends that is looking for love. There is also a web site that offers forums, workshops, articles and support. The site is http://www.lovein90days.com/. Check out the interesting video on one of the thirteen deadly dating patterns.

Disclosure: I was given a copy of the book by the publisher for review and was not compensated in any other way.

REVIEW OF THICKER THAN BLOOD BY C.J. DARLINGTON

In the book Thicker Than Bloodby C.J. Darlington there are two sisters Christy and May that are split apart after a tragic event that effects both their lives. Christy has many problems in her life and she turns to booze and cigarettes to help them all go away. When she is arrested for drunk driving she calls a coworker Vince and that is when her worst problems begin. She has to make a decision quickly in order to turn her life around. Christy has a secret that has haunted her for many years.

Christy's sister May works on a ranch and has been wondering what has happened to her sister. She has tried to contact her many times and has had no luck. Christy shows up one day and brings her problems with her. Christy learns the lessons of compassion and forgiveness that May teaches her. There is a lot of excitement that happens on the ranch especially when Vince starts coming around.

The book was well written. There were many different elements included in the book such as humor, suspense, mystery, emotions and Christian values. This was the author’s debut novel that was written when she was fifteen years old and I am very impressed. I hope that she continues to write, and I look forward to reading her next novel.
