Join Chris Stookey, author of the medical mystery thriller, Terminal Care (Silver Leaf Books), as he virtually tours the blogosphere on his first virtual book tour with Pump Up Your Book!

Terminal CareIn Deaconess Hospital in San Francisco, there is a study being conducted on the Alzheimer's ward and there has been numerous deaths since the start of the study. There is a  new experimental drug called "NAF" and it is being administered to half of the patients on the ward by a team of neurologists.

Even after six deaths have occurred since the start of the trial, the hospital wants to continue the study. Phil Pescoe is an emergency physician who becomes alarmed with the strange deaths and teams up with Clara Wong- a brilliant internist with a troubled past- to investigate the deaths. Together they run into many obstacles that include the hospital board and the pharmaceutical company running the study.  With the death count increasing, they are determined to stop the trial to save the patients on the ward and prevent the drug from being released on the general population.

About the Author-

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMugChristopher Stookey, MD, is a practicing emergency physician, and he is passionate about medicine and health care. However, his other great interests are literature and writing, and he has steadily published a number of short stories and essays over the past ten years. His most recent essay, "First in My Class," appears in the book BECOMING A DOCTOR (published by W. W. Norton & Co, March 2010); the essay describes Dr. Stookey's wrenching involvement in a malpractice lawsuit when he was a new resident, fresh out of medical school. TERMINAL CARE, a medical mystery thriller, is his first novel. The book, set in San Francisco, explores the unsavory world of big-business pharmaceuticals as well as the sad and tragic world of the Alzheimer's ward at a medical research hospital. Stookey's other interests include jogging in the greenbelts near his home and surfing (he promises his next novel will feature a surfer as a main character). He lives in Laguna Beach, California with his wife and three dogs.

 My Thoughts-

I have always loved medical mysteries and this is a fantastic debut novel. It had many twists and turns that kept me entertained and engaged. As a practicing RN, I have a tendency to be critical on the accuracy of the medical information provided and Dr. Stookey's novel was very realistic. The two main characters, Phil and Clara interacted well together and I felt that I was right there with them listening to their conversations. I was a little sad when the book ended and I hope that the author continues to write in the future. I recommend this book to everyone who likes medical mysteries. You will not be disappointed!
